Back in March, when Denmark was still in lockdown, British Charlotte Rowan from Liverpool visited me in the podcast. Charlotte works as a conductor and last year she, as the first woman, took the job as conductor of Herning Kirkes Drengekor (Herning Church’s Boys’ Choir) which is acknowledged for a high musical standard and travels around the world to perform in famous concert halls. Charlotte also conducts the barbershop choir WondAros – the first of its kind for women in Denmark. She tells us about her work with both choirs and about why it is important to have the discussion about gender within the choir world where there are more female than male singers. Additionally, we dig into the football anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” in a version sung by the boys’ choir that will move every true Liverpool fan.
